Root Mean Square Granulation Contrast-To evaluate the quality of images of the Sun through ground-based telescopes : IIA scientists
Root Mean Square Granulation Contrast- IIA scientists have proposed the root mean square Granulation Contrast to assess the quality of images of the Sun obtained through ground-based telescopes.
- Used for Study of Sun
- Ground-based telescopes are used with some disadvantages.
- Disadvantage of Ground-based telescopes – Light from the Sun passes through Earth’s atmosphere, leading to random fluctuations and distortions.
- Adaptive optics (AO) system- can measure and correct for atmospheric distortions in real time. By employing AO, telescopes can compensate for the bending of light caused by refractive index fluctuations, enhancing image quality.
- Strehl ratio – measure of the quality of optical image formation
